The Urgency of Missions: There and Now
Mar 31, 2025
God made His will clear—it’s in writing. Jesus commanded us to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28). The question is: How are we doing?
Today, nearly 3 billion people—29% of the world’s population—have never heard the name of Jesus. They have no churches, no Bibles in their language, and no Christian neighbors.
Yet, of the 400,000 missionaries worldwide, 97% serve in places where the gospel is already present. Only 3% are working among the truly unreached.
The numbers don’t stop there. Of all the money Christians give, only 0.1% goes to reaching those who have never heard the gospel. That means nearly all missions funds are directed toward those who already have access to Jesus.
A New Strategy: There and Now
We cannot continue relying on the same missions model and expect different results. To reach 3 billion people, we must be strategic and urgent with our resources.
The solution is clear: equip and empower local, national believers to plant churches among the unreached. These believers already speak the language, understand the culture, and are ready to make disciples—right now.
By shifting our resources, we multiply the impact. Instead of waiting years for missionaries to adjust to a new culture and learn a new language, we can train and support local leaders who are already in place. This is the new wave of missions—THERE and NOW.
The Time is Now
If we truly want to fulfill the Great Commission in our lifetime, we must refocus our mission strategy and fund those who can bring the gospel faster and more effectively.
Let’s stop waiting. Let’s take action THERE and NOW.
